Grading Rubric

Course grades are earned according to the following criteria as outlined in the student handbook.  These determinations are made based upon points earned on written and studio assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects.  Grades are also influenced by  class participation, overall class effort, and proper use of equipment and facilities.  

 

A+, A, A-

Excellent achievement: outstanding overall performance

 

Effort: Excellent effort on in-class assignments, projects, class discussions and general course work. Students performs above and beyond the minimum requirements of assigned work.

Participation: Frequently participates in in-class and online discussions, and critiques.

Homework: Consistently completed on time. Good quality.

Preparedness: Student comes to class prepared, ready to work. Has read assigned reading and is able to contribute to in-class discussions.

Projects: Projects are of excellent quality, on time, and demonstrates elevated effort and willingness to challenge self.

Written work: High quality written work/demonstrates comprehension of readings and concepts covered in class. Writing is free of grammatical errors, misspellings. Cites sources.

Attendance: No unexcused absences. Work missed from excused absences is made up on time.

 

 

B+, B, B-

 

Effort: Good effort on in-class assignments, projects, class discussions and general course work. Students achieves the minimum requirements of assigned work.

Participation: Occasionally participates in in-class and online discussions, and critiques.

Homework: Almost always completed on time. Good quality.

Preparedness: Student typically to class prepared, ready to work. Has read assigned reading and is able to contribute to in-class discussions.

Projects: Projects are of good quality, on time.

Written work: Satisfactory written work/demonstrates comprehension of readings and concepts covered in class.  

Attendance: No unexcused absences. Work missed from excused absences is made up on time.

 

 

C+, C, C-

 

Effort: Less than expected effort on in-class assignments, projects, class discussions and general course work. Students achieves less than the minimum requirements of assigned work.

Participation: Student does not regularly participate in in-class and online discussions, and critiques.

Homework: Homework is occasionally late. Poor quality.

Preparedness: Student frequently unprepared.  Has not read assigned reading and unable to participate in class discussions.

Projects: Projects are of good quality, on time.

Written work: Satisfactory written work/demonstrates comprehension of readings and concepts covered in class.  

Attendance: No unexcused absences. Work missed from excused absences is made up on time.

 

 

D+, D, D-

Minimal competency: unsatisfactory achievement
